40 Days of Prayer
I believe that we are at a critical juncture in the history and life of Olivet Baptist Church. We are at crossroads where we will either step out in faith to follow Christ wherever he leads, or pull back into our comfort zone and play it safe.
In October, we began our campaign to raise funds for a new sanctuary and education building to provide for our future and for growth. Recently God has been blessing us with growth! Every week we can see our children’s ministry growing; we have added new members and are seeing children and adults come to faith in Christ. Our sanctuary is full and overflowing and we must provide for those that God brings to us as we expand the Olivet family.
This is a great time to be a member of Olivet! It is also a time of great challenge, as we seek to affirm God’s direction for our church. In order for us to go forward with Christ we must come together in unity to follow Christ’s leadership.
We will begin our 40 Days of Prayer emphasis on Wednesday night April 14 at 6:45 p.m. We will spend forty days in prayer asking God to reveal his will to us concerning our church. We are asking that each of us reexamine our own personal relationship to Christ and our commitment to follow him wherever he leads. We are asking that everyone seek to know and understand what God is saying to us as a church, so that we can have unity as we present ourselves, and our church to Christ as living sacrifices—this is holy and acceptable worship.
We are asking that we share together in our families, Sunday School classes and in our worship and other gatherings what we believe God is saying to us.
As we reach new people for Christ our church will grow; and growth brings change. We must have an unparalleled love for God, great faith, divine wisdom, true humility, love for one another and a heart for the lost in order to meet the challenges that God has for us.
On Sunday morning May 23 we will conclude our 40 Days of Prayer with a time of sharing with one another what God has revealed to us during this time.
Following Christ,
Bro. Bruce
