2001 Year in Review

2001 was definitely a landmark year in the history of our nation and the world.  With the terrorists attacks on the United States and the War on Terrorism this past year was a pivotal year in the life of our nation and world.  In the response to the tragedy of September 11, a divided nation has been united around a new resolve to fight terrorism.

As I watched the planes crash into the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon, and spent hours soaking up the news reports ¾ on terrorism around the world, the war in Afghanistan, the anthrax poisonings, the persecution of Christians, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, and the steps towards the unification of Europe ¾ I could not help but think about the fulfillment of scriptural prophecy concerning the end times and be reminded of the fact that God’s Word is true.

Everything else seems to pale in comparison to the incredible historical events of this past year.  In the wake of all that has happened, it may be difficult to remember what has taken place at Olivet during this past year.  We began 2001 with a couple of new and innovative ways to reach our community.  Our church took the lead in bringing the end-times feature film, Left Behind, to Dublin.  Close to 1,000 people from our area came and watched this dramatic end-times film which helped to strengthen and renew the faith of many believers and was instrumental in bringing people to Jesus Christ

The second event was February’s Power Team Crusade at the Heart of Georgia.  The Power Team also held assemblies in our local schools persuasively motivating and encouraging our youth to live clean, moral lives characterized by excellence.  The impact was incredible!  Thousands of people were reached, and hundreds of Christians from across our county and beyond joined together in unity to reach out to our young people and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ

In 2001, we also saw continued growth in our Children’s ministries.  We began RA’s, GA’s and Children’s Choir, renovated our nursery areas and were blessed as families dedicated themselves and their children to the Lord.

We began our Centennial Celebration with the return of Angus Hart and Michael Petty for our Homecoming and Revival.  We have begun work on our Centennial Church Directory and the Fellowship Hall was filled for the Centennial production of Joseph, The Carpenter.

There are many other events to reflect upon, but my space is limited.  We certainly do not want to forget that all that has been accomplished is a gift and blessing from our Lord Jesus Christ.  We want Him to be blessed and honored through all that we do.

We also want to thank everyone who has given of his or her time, energy, talents, resources and finances to carry out God’s work here at Olivet.

 In Christ,
Bro. Bruce
