The Exchange Club of
Dublin was organized on 10/01/36. M. J. Guyton was the first president under
the original charter; after reorganization the first officers of the club were:
Wallace W. Walke, President; Cecil E. Carroll, First Vice-President; Stanley A. Reese,
Second Vice-President; Wilbur S. Jones, Secretary; and James L. Keen, Jr., Treasurer.
Among the early projects sponsored by the club were: the permanent marking of the
principal streets of Dublin; the sponsoring of the Women's Curb Market, the rat-proofing
of the business district for the prevention of typhus fever; financial assistance to the
local PWA Nursery School for under-privileged children; securing for Dublin a local unit
of the Highway Patrol and later the building of a permanent home for the local patrol
unit; the annual participation in the Empty Stocking Fund program; and the annual
Christmas Parade. |
