Habitat for Humanity
Our plans for Saturday Each Habitat
house is carefully planned by the Construction and Site Selection Committees
and the Executive Director. The home will take approximately ten weeks
to construct barring no inclement weather or other delays. After a ground-
breaking picture has been taken with representatives from the affiliate,
the homeowner and their family, friends, and church members, and the sponsoring
partner, the foundation for the home is prepared. A schedule with tentative
dates for each phase of construction is developed for all volunteers,
Habitat members, and homeowners. All work
done by volunteers takes place on Saturdays, and begins with the erection
of the walls. The day begins at 8:00 A.M. with devotion, sign-in, and
instructions from the construction crew which is made up of construction
committee members and a hired professional contractor. By 8:30 A.M. of
each morning work commences. One of Habitat's
main objectives, besides * productivity, is safety. We provide water,
gatorade, a first aid kit, and sunscreen for all volunteers throughout
the day. However, it is recommended that each volunteer bring a pair of
gloves and a hammer. At 12:00
P.M. a separate volunteer group provides lunch, ranging anywhere from
sandwiches and chips |
