"Elks Care - Elks Share" DUBLIN B. P. O. E. 1646 "THE THINGS WE DO" The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States, organized in 1868, is one of the oldest and largest fraternal organizations in the country. Commitment to the involvement in the following is what an Elk is about:
Clinton Lord, Chairperson In January, at the Stubb's Park Gym, the Annual "Hoop Shoot" of the Elks is held with boys and girls throughout County/City School systems competing in three age group levels. One boy and one girl are selected in each of the top three places to represent Dublin/Laurens County in the District Championship:
8-9 Year Ages: 10-11 Yr. Ages: 12-13 Yr. Ages:
With continued support by their school coaches, families, the Hoop Shoot Committee and Lodge, these youngster will advance past the State Level. This has been another good year and we have more wonderful years to come.
Danny Jones and staff of the Dublin Parks & Recreation Department support our Hoop Shoot event and also provided a 15 passenger van used by Clinton Lord for transporting our winners to the District Contest. Always remember that their efforts contribute to the continuation of the game, goodwill and sportsmanship. Without their efforts, Hoop Shoot would be more expensive and difficult to conduct.
Please thank the Elks' Members and their family for their participation in this very important youth project. We had great Elk support this year. If you would like to volunteer next year - at least 13 volunteers are needed - or would like to hear more about this program, ask one of the following volunteers in this local year's event:

Every year, this Lodge, the Alliance and individual members support the Georgia Aidmore Project. There are various events conducted quarterly - such as the "Cottage Clean Up Day" - and sponsoring a youth during the Christmas Holidays. Donations of home furnishings, Christmas presents, or personal time are based on the need of the cottage and youth that we support. If you would like to make a contribution or a memorial in someone's honor or memory, please contact the Aidmore Chairperson.
Elks Aidmore Children's Center is a private, non-profit residential group care facility whose primary mission is to provide residential care and support services for the needs of troubled adolescent females and their families/custodians, focusing on issues associated with abuse, abandonment and neglect. Primary sources of referral are received from the Division of Family and Children Services and the Department of Juvenile Justice, although private placements are considered on an individual basis.
The Center, open year round and serving families throughout the state of Georgia, has 3 cottages with a 48 resident capacity between the ages of 12 and 17; a preparation for independent living cottage for 8 to 10 residents between the ages of 17 and 21; and, a Supervised Apartment for Independent Living for youths displaying the necessary skills to move out on their own.
Daily cottage programs stress personal, social, group and spiritual responsibility through established expectations, a level system, volunteerism, voluntary sports and worship. When possible, residents participate in family counseling with Master level therapists to help resolve a variety of issues and which focuses on communication skills and reunification of the family.
In addition to helping teenage females mature into productive young adults, Elks Center offers a camping program and adventures ropes program. The Elks Honey Creek Campground offers the chance for families and groups to camp in a safe, sequestered environment. The campground has camping trails, Adirondack shelters, picnic tables and an abundance of wildlife.
The Course at Elks Aidmore offers non-profit groups and corporations the opportunity to build teamwork and leadership skills through experienced based education. Based in an outdoor setting, The Course allows participants the opportunity to feel like a team resolving complex problems under stress, and practice effective communication behaviors. The Course is individually crafted, designed only with the company's philosophy, vision and work force in mind.
